What Kind of Bachelors Degree is Best For Teaching ESL in Japan?
by: John

Hi Cody,
Honestly, they don't look very hard at the type of degree that you have. Well not at least at the entry level. So a music or art major will have the same chance as someone who majors in an educational field. Although a TEFL degree, even an online one will give you an edge.

And if you look at our jobs page or other job pages on teaching in Japan you will find quite a few comments like "prefer TEFL certification" or "we prefer some Japanese language ability."

Our site sponsors both Japanese language courses as well as TEFL certifications. So we can set you up. Oh by the way our TEFL sponsor i-to- is offering a big discount So you can save yourself a chunk of change.
a teaching certificate

Of course for higher paying jobs like university jobs and private academies, education related degrees and certification carries weight. But teaching experience carries the most.

So if you want to bust into the ESL field get a well written resume and some teaching certification and jump into the fray. Many schools are already advertising for the big spring push so now would be the time.
Thank you and good luck to you!
John
